Have you ever wondered how Monks Wood and Co-op Wood are funded?
NWT is often successful in applying for grants for projects such as the entrance arch and tower, hiring machinery to make ponds and paths, and buying equipment such as mowers. But since Monks Wood and Co-op Wood were planted, NWT has received annual Farm Woodland Payments via the Forestry Commission of approximately £2500, and these have paid for our regular outgoings such as public liability insurance, servicing of tools, mower fuel, leaflets, website hosting, etc. Farm Woodland Payments are made for 15 years after planting, so for us expire between 2023 (Monks Wood south and mid), 2024 (Monks Wood north) and 2026 (Co-op Wood). |
It is therefore critical that NWT starts to generate sustainable income to pay for the ongoing maintenance and insurance costs of running Ashing Lane Nature Reserve and NWT itself, an organisation also involved in other local projects, such as PC Wood and Minster Fields in Nettleham. We’ve decided to establish a small society lottery called ‘NWT 200 Club’, as the principles of such clubs are proven and well-established. NWT has registered with West Lindsey District Council under the Gambling Act 2005 as LO2301.
Would you consider helping us by buying a ticket, and asking your friends and family too? The first draw date is Wednesday July 5th, 2023. |
Our objective is to sell 200 tickets, each at £2 per month, paid by standing order. 50% of the income will be paid out in 3 monthly prizes, via a random number draw - 1st prize will receive 50%, 2nd prize will receive 30% and 3rd prize will receive 20%. The remaining 50% will go to NWT for Ashing Lane Nature Reserve and Charity running costs. If we sell 200 tickets, then each year £2400 will go out in prizes, and £2400 will go to NWT.
The process will be run by two NWT volunteers and audited by a separate NWT volunteer to meet the governance and transparency requirements of West Lindsey District Council.
From our observations and surveys, we are aware that, each week, there are hundreds of individuals, families, groups and visitors that walk in the reserve and enjoy its magnificence. More people are now joining our regular working parties to help us maintain and develop the coppices, paths, drains and other features. Many walkers just want to meander in habitats that aren’t common in this part of Lincolnshire, enjoying the tranquillity and the sights and sounds of nature that this wonderful site offers. If you are interested in playing a part in ensuring Ashing Lane Nature Reserve’s long-term sustainability, for current generations and many generations in the future, please email us using the dedicated email address for the Club - [email protected]. We’ll reply telling you the information that we need from you to get you signed up. |
